Minister to officially announce Tullamore project

A Tullamore project that could lead to up to 300 direct and indirect jobs is today (Thursday) being officially announced by Minister of State for Public Service Reform Brian Hayes.

The MACCSol project by the Tullamore-based RR Projects looks to commercialise a new cooling system for power stations, and is aimed particularly at solar energy production in the Mediterranean, Middle East and North Africa.

Under development in conjunction with the University of Limerick since 2010, it's to be tested commercially in Australia next year after RR Projects signed a contract with the Australian-based Vast Solar Pty Ltd and Skoda-Doosan from the Czech Republic.

Speaking this week MACCSol’s technical coordinator at the Stokes Institute in UL Dr Ronan Grimes said the most up-to-date figures suggest the international market for air-cooled condensers is worth €2bn annually.
