It’s going to feel like spring tomorrow (Tuesday) in Athlone.

That’s according to Met Eireann forecaster John Eagleton, who said today’s rain is to give way to a “nice and bright” day tomorrow that will be mostly dry.

While further rain is expected from Wednesday evening and it's anticipated Thursday will feel like winter, in what’s sure to be good news for those fearing flooding Mr Eagleton said total rain expected until Friday, including today, is about half an inch.

While many areas will escape the rain tomorrow, others will experience odd showers. The day will feature light winds and temperatures of about nine or ten degrees Celsius.

Wednesday is also set to begin as a dry day, but increasing cloud will lead to rain for the evening and leading into Thursday.

Thursday will bring with it a brisk westerly wind and “quite a few showers”, along with cooler temperatures of about seven to eight degrees Celsius.

“Tuesday will definitely feel like spring, but Thursday will feel like it’s still winter,” Mr Eagleton explained.

Thursday’s cold, blustery and showery weather will continue through Friday, before improvements begin to show on Saturday.

Sunday is expected to be milder, with breezy and dry weather expected and relatively balmy temperatures of up to twelve degrees.

“All in all it’s not as wet as it was, but it’s certainly not dry,” Mr Eagleton said, summing up the days to come.

However, what’s sure to come as a relief to all is the news that there’s “nothing extreme” about the weather expected over the coming days.
