Bourke welcomes funding for Daingean Canal Project

Cllr Noel Bourke has this week welcomed the approval of a grant of just under €10,000 for the Grand Canal Sports Project based in Daingean.
The grant of €9,857 was approved by the Board of North Offaly Development Fund Limited, of which Cllr Bourke is a member.
“As a member of the Board of Offaly Local Development I was also in a position to support the application submitted to that body for the same project for grant aid of €36,965,” said Cllr Bourke who went on to say that the balance of the funding will be provided by the project itself.
Cllr Bourke said the project is a community enterprise, which is setting out to capitalise on the potential of the Grand Canal to attract and develop adventure sports, which have become hugely popular and the canal is seen as an ideal environment for such sports.
“This project will attract visitors to the area which will add to the local economy and create jobs as it develops,” said Cllr Bourke who went to say that it is a good investment and he complimented all involved on the work done to date in preparing the various plans required for such a project.
