Midlands north west European election candidate Senator Ronan Mullen has today (Tuesday) called on Offaly County Council and other local authorities to consider naming a road after Saint John Paul II.

"On Sunday, we were privileged to see John Paul II canonised along with Saint John XXIII in Rome," Senator Mullen explained. "Given this unique occasion, Saint John Paul's visit to Ireland should be marked in some appropriate way. One way the Saint's visit to Ireland could be permanently commemorated would be for Offaly County Council to name or rename a street after Saint John Paul."

Do you think naming a street in Offaly after the former Pope would be appropriate?
