Minister Alan Shatter announces his resignation

The Minister for Justice, Alan Shatter, has resigned this afternoon (Wednesday).

The announcement came after he was embroiled in a number of controversies over recent months.

Last weekend it emerged that he had breached data protection regulations regarding Independent TD Mick Wallace.

It's understood that his replacement will be announced this evening.
