Only three Garth Brooks concerts given permission

UPDATE: Garth Brooks will play at Croke Park on July 25, 26 and 27 (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) only. Concerts planned for July 28 and 29 have not been given a licence.

In its ruling Dublin City Council said it would be concerned with the precedent that would be created if five consecutive concerts in a row of the scale were licensed.

Three consecutive concerts have already taken place at Croke Park this year. The council say five more in a row would be considered an over intensification of the use of Croke Park for the holding of special events or concerts.

It's understood Dublin City Council has this morning (Thursday) granted permission for only three of the five planned Garth Brooks concerts at Croke Park.

Some 400,000 tickets were sold for the country singer's five concerts at the Dublin venue when they went on sale in January and February.

It's unclear as of yet what this morning's news means for the two concerts that have not been granted permission.
