Digital art coming to charleville castle next week

Charleville Castle is set to be “digitally painted” next Tuesday evening, thanks to a novel initiative by Tullamore-based company Applydea.

The company behind the popular Maglus magnetic stylus for iPad will host German artist Benjamin Rabe for the event that will see his illustrations projected onto Charleville Castle.

Benjamin is a huge fan of the Maglus and uses it for his creative work.
Applydea, which has a creative design studio in Designhub in Tullamore, decided to collaborate with Benjamin on the event when they saw the work he was producing using their products.

Next Tuesday’s event was originally planned as a sort of testimonial for the Maglus, but it’s become bigger than that now. A workshop prior to the event will take place with eight local school children, and on Tuesday night they will also be able to see their work projected onto Charleville Castle.

“Children are becoming more and more tech savvy and it is inevitable that lots of traditional experiences such as art will have a digital or technology variation that is as expressive as traditional art,” Applydea’s Noel Joyce explained, adding that they want to use this workshop as a pilot so they can start doing more digital workshops with children in the future.

Next Tuesday’s event is free of charge and open to the public. It will begin at 7pm.
