Tullamore christmas lights go on today

The Christmas season is officially set to commence in Tullamore when the town’s Christmas lights are switched on during a ceremony in O’Connor Square from 5pm today.

The festivities kick off with entertainment from the Stage Stars Academy at 5pm. Tullamore Town Band and St Columcille’s Pipe Band will lead Santa from the GAA grounds at 5.30pm ahead of his arrival at O’Connor Square at 6pm.

The Strictly Goes Country group, who put on a great night of entertainment and raised funds for the Christmas Lights campaign, are taking to the stage at 5.30pm followed by local band Ruggedwood.

Santa is due to arrive in O’Connor Square at 6pm. The Christmas lights will then be turned on by European Gold medalist Ross O’Connor at 6.15pm.

Chairperson of Tullamore Chamber, Anne Starling and Offaly County Council Cathaoirleach Sinead Dooley will then speak before local band Ruggedwood play out proceedings.

The Christmas Lights campaign is managed by a team of volunteers who are continuously striving to improve the lights display and extend its reach across the town. The Tullamore Christmas Lights help create a festive atmosphere in Tullamore over the Christmas period and help draw visitors from around the Midlands and further afield.
