Care needed on the roads as cold snap continues

Met Eireann has warned widespread frost and ice will lead to treacherous conditions on untreated roads and footpaths.

The forecaster issued a new status yellow snow and ice warning which is in effect from 6pm today.

Air temperatures of between zero and minus four degrees Celsius are expected with snow flurries in places, which may result in a light dusting of snow.

Meanwhile, AA Roadwatch has said ice remains in certain parts of the country; with particular care needed on minor roads and in sheltered areas.

It is advising motorists to slow down, take extra care and remember stopping distances are ten times longer in snow and ice. The AA is asking people to allow plenty of extra time to complete their journey safely.
