Garda assaulted in doon at the weekend

A garda was assaulted during an incident in Doon at the weekend.

It’s understood the garda was repeatedly struck on the head when he intervened in a fight betweeen a number of males.

Gardai in Birr said pepper spray was deployed during the incident which happened at around 3.15am on Sunday morning

Three men, aged in their late teens and early 20s, were arrested at the scene and taken to Birr Garda Station.

They are due to appear before Athlone District Court in connection with the incident on Wednesday.
