Garda appeal over edenderry fire

Gardai are appealing for information in relation to a fire in Edenderry yesterday evening.

A protected building known locally as the Old Rectory was damaged by fire at around 7pm. The vacant property is located at the top of Francis Street.

Although a technical examination of the scene has yet to conclude, Gardai are currently treating the fire as malicious.

Sgt Kevin Quinn of Edenderry Garda Station has appealed for information in relation to the fire. He said “a number of youths were seen running from the area shortly after the fire was discovered.”

The fire brigade managed to get the fire under control relatively quickly. However, Sgt Quinn said “there was a number of rooms damaged by smoke and burnt as well.”

Anyone who saw people loitering in the area or noticed anything suspicious is asked to contact Edenderry Garda Station on 046 97 31290.
