Elderly hitchhiker robbed in Cloghan

Birr Gardai are looking for three males who robbed a pensioner while trying to thumb a lift in Cloghan on Friday morning last.

It is believed that the man, who was in his 70s, had just collected his and his brother's pensions and was thumbing a lift to Banagher when the incident occured between ten and half ten in the morning.

While waiting for a lift on the roadside, the man was approached by three men in a dark coloured car, which may have had a 07 registration.

After engaging the man in a conversation, the trio acquired his wallet which contained a sum of cash. They then drove off in the direction of Wynne's Cross.

Thankfully the elderly robbery victim was not hurt during the incident.
