Former Offaly goalkeeper Liam Moran passes on

The GAA community is in mourning following the death of former Edenderry and Offaly football goalkeeper Liam Moran on Monday.

Liam played 26 times for his county between 1954 and 1958, including eight Championship appearances. He also played in Offaly's famous win over Louth in the first O'Byrne Cup in 1954. During his playing career with his club he won two football championships, in 1953 and 57.

After his playing days were over he performed a variety of roles within the club and in 2012 was inducted into the Edenderry GAA Hall of Fame. He also owned a bike shop in O'Connell Square for a long period and was a valued member of the business community in the town.

Mr Moran's funeral takes place tomorrow, Friday February 24, at noon in St Mary's Church Edenderry.

He is survived by his wife Shirley, sons Mark and Paul, daughter Rhona, grandchildren Liam (USA), Colm, Niamh, Clodagh, Sorcha, Alice, Lucy and Conor. Deeply regretted by his sisters Chris and Kitty, brother Tom, brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, daughters-in-law, son-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins and his many friends.
