Parents urged to take action to prevent cling film craze

PARENTS in Edenderry are being urged to play their role to stop the spread of a newcraze where teenagers are wrapping cling film around each other's faces and holding their breath.

It was reported in national media this week that a group of youths congregated in Edenderry to take part in the dangerous craze.

There are huge concerns that this behaviour may in some incident have devastating consequences.

Local North Offaly-based Fianna Fail Councillor Noel Bourke said that parents and schools both have an important role to play in preventing the spread of this dangerous craze.

“Obviously it's a hugely dangerous practice for anyone to be getting involved in,” he told the Offaly Independent this week.

“The consequences are extremely serious. Parents should be aware of this,” said Cllr Bourke.

“The vast majority of parents wouldn't be aware of this. I hadn't heard of such a thing until I read about this.

“As part of the issues schools teach, it should be referenced. Schools can play a part, but parents have a huge role to play,” added Cllr Bourke.

He urged young people in Edenderry and elsewhere to exercise extreme caution and do what they can to put an end to it.

“People should be cautious about this and not let it go on at all.

“You can see the danger of cling film. You see it used in industry wrapping pellets. People should be warned about the dangers of it,” he concluded.
