Who will be the first B'Rose of Birr???

Forget the Rose of Tralee, this year, Birr Stage Guild brings you a novel fundraiser, the B’Rose of Birr!

The Guild’s Chairman, Adrian Sheils said “we were looking for a fundraiser with a difference, one that will bring together people from a variety of clubs and societies in the area for a great night out.”
“We were playing around with a few different names when we came up with the B’Rose of Birr. We decided to go with that name as it gives the clue, that there’s not a rose to be seen, only bro's,” he added.
The B’Rose of Birr is a take-off of the famous Rose of Tralee festival, where the male contestants battle it out to be the B’Rose of Birr. Each contest will represent a country and will wear a costume or dress which would represent that area.
Some of the countries to be represented include China, The Congo and Timbuktu and of course, the night wouldn’t be complete without an Offaly Rose! The night will be hosted by well known TV personality Katherine Lynch and promises to be a night full of fun, laughter and great craic.
Each Rose will have the opportunity to shine on stage for 5 minutes and can perform a talent if he wants to. Mr Sheils joked that “once the B’Roses are announced he expects to be inundated with calls from ladies looking to be escorts!!”
Birr Stage Guild would like to thank in particular, their sponsors and participants, without whom this wouldn’t be possible.
Participants include well known GAA referee Tony Carroll, who represents Newcastle, Paul Owens in the Scotland Rose, Shane Murphy and Michael Verney represent China, David O'Meara is the Cork Rose, Aidan Kelly is Liverpool Rose and James Heenan is the Offaly Rose.
In addition, Gerry Clarke represents Wales, Dylan Murphy will fly the Indian flag, Ryan O'Meara is the Belfast Rose, David Sheils is the Timbuktu Rose, Ian Hanrahan represents Jamaica and Kevin Murphy is the New York Rose.
The Mexican flag will be flown by John Lynch, while former hurler Johnny Pilkington will be the Sydney Rose, Gary O'Meara represents Dublin and finally, Ronan Foyle will be the Spanish Rose with a difference.
See you in the County Arms Hotel, Birr on Friday, November 10 at 8pm. Entry €15 which includes a free vote.
