What you can't miss at Disney World

Are you thinking of taking a trip to the international capital of fun? Disney World keeps getting better and better, with more rides and attractions being offered year after year.

But with so many rides, that also means you'll have to choose which ones you go on and which ones you'll need to leave for your next visit. And don't forget that Disney World is not just about rides - there are an astonishing number of restaurants, shopping and entertainment districts and a wealth of other features to explore once you've bought your Disney Park tickets.

Here are some of our favourites:

The Cirque du Soleil show La Nouba:

Cirque du Soleil is a dance troupe of Canadian origin that quite literally makes a circus out of performing. There are no animals, but a cast of hundreds, many of them dressed in colourful clown suits, perform as acrobats and gymnasts. The phrase La Nouba comes from the French expression 'faire la nouba' which means, 'to party'. This is one party you will never forget and many Disney World visitors list it as one of the highlights of their trip.

The Kilimanjaro safaris at Disney's Animal Kingdom simulates a safari ride through the savannah of East Africa during which visitors lay eyes on an astonishing array of African wildlife including elephants, giraffes, zebras, gazelles, lion, crocodiles, monkeys and cheetahs. Guests can also experience the attraction as a night safari, accompanied by strange animal sounds and an African dance troupe.

'Yo Ho with Pirates of the Caribbean' is an indoor boat journey which immerses the guest in the life of a pirate in the old Deep South. The ship moves downstream, passing other riverboats and entertainers along the route, with a soundtrack providing a running commentary from a pirate. Also heard is the sound of a loud, gushing waterfall somewhere ahead which has been known to strike a note of fear into one or two easily scared passengers!

Take the Plunge in Typhoon Lagoon:

This is one of the most popular water parks in the world and the first thing to note about it is that it is absolutely enormous. It features dozens of waterfalls and slides, as well as a surf pool which can generate six foot waves. Snorkellers will enjoy the tropical marine life at Shark Reef where two salt water reefs attract stingrays, leopard sharks and tropical fish. Water-babies should also head over to the nearby Discovery Cove, where guests can interact with sea mammals, including bottlenose dolphins.

The restaurant scene:

While burgers and pizzas will provide sustenance for the family some of the time, you will need something more nutritious than the Great American Meal while you are staying at Disney World. The resort has restaurants in every price bracket but everybody loves to try the fish at the Flying Fish Cafe if they can. This is good old fashioned native Florida seafood such as red snapper and other seasonal, local produce.
