Having recorded two impressive results with a big win over West Cork and a draw against the much-vaunted DDSL, the Midland Schoolboy League"s Kennedy Cup ambitions were ended by a defeat to Cavan last Tuesday.
The Midland Schoolboy League (MSL) had an emphatic 4-0 victory over West Cork in their opening game in the SFAI Kennedy Cup, which kicked off early this week at the University of Limerick.
The MSL then secured a 2-2 draw with defending championship and perennial contenders, the Dublin & District Schoolboy League.
However, a 1-0 defeat to Cavan - who had previously lost 5-0 to the DDSL - meant the MSL failed to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Kennedy Cup.
As they finished third in their group, the Midland side - containing several representatives from Offaly clubs - went into the quarter-finals of the Shield, in which they were beaten 3-1 by Sligo/Leitrim.
That result ended the MSL"s hopes of silverware.
The MSL were due to play the Athlone & District Schoolboy League yesterday evening (Thursday) to determine their final placing in the annual under-13 competition.
