Grennan and Curley the winners in Paddy Larkin Memorial Run

A big crowd of 73 runners and walkers lined up on the track last Tuesday evening for the Paddy Larkin Memorial race. On a lovely mild evening, the race was run over a distance of 3000 metres incorporating both the track and tarmac circuits. Catch Grennan, who is in good form at the moment, came home an easy winner in a time of 9.41. John Harkin was second in 9.53 just ahead of Jody O'Reilly. Pauline Curley was the first woman finisher in 8th place overall in a time of 10.10. Overall it was a great night with a good mix of runners and walkers and it proved to be a lovely social occasion. Amsterdam Marathon Mary Daly competed in the Amsterdam Marathon last Sunday. The race was run in ideal weather conditions. Mary started off at a steady pace and reached the half way mark in 1.39.48 and went on to complete the 26.2 mile distance in a good time of 3.28.48. Gerry Farnan Cross Country The 25th annual Gerry Farnan Cross Country festival of races was held last Sunday in the Phoenix Park last Sunday. These races are also trials to select teams for the upcoming Home Country Internationals. First up was the ladies race run over three miles and here Liz Cuskelly finished in 16th place in a high class field but more importantly was placed second in the over 35 category and so gain selection on the Irish team for the second year running. Mary Walsh came home in 70th place overall and 4th in her age category in a time of 24.25. In the men's race over five miles, Catch Grennan was Tullamore's best placed finisher in 65th place which gave him 7th in the over 35 age group. John Harkin was next in 71st place and 9th in the over 35's. Johnny Feery placed 99th overall and 3rd over 50 which earns him his place on the Irish team. Other Tullamore placings were 124th Declan Madden, 133rd John Todd (5th over 55) in a time of 31.23 and Tony McCormack who finished in 137th place. Jim Langan was 5th in the over 65 race run over 3 miles in a time of 22.00. Killarney 5k road series The organizers claim that this is one of the fastest courses in Ireland and Jim Langan made full use of this to run a very fast 21.04 for the 5k distance. This gave Jim 37th place overall and first in the over 65 category. Sympathy Tullamore Harriers extends sympathy to the Ryan family on the death of PJ Ryan, Marian Place, Tullamore.
