Cuskelly and Grennan earn international selection

A small band of Tullamore Harriers athletes travelled to the Phoenix Park last Sunday for the annual Gerry Farnan Open Cross Country event hosted by Metro St Brigid's AC. The event always draws a high-quality field, almost on a par with the National Championships. Well done to the runners who braved the wet and windy conditions in last Sunday's race which also served as the trial for the British & Irish Masters Champs in Glasgow on November 26th. The men's race was run over a distance of five miles and the Harriers' first finisher was Liam Brady in a fine 18th place overall in 26.30, which earned him a third place finish in the Junior (under 20) competition. Catch Grennan placed 75th overall but more importantly this gave him third in the over 35 category which cemented his place on the Irish team for the upcoming Masters Cross Country International in Glasgow. Mark Serviss was next home in 99th place in 29.52, while David Fox placed 112th and clocked 30.33. John Todd finished in 4th place in the over 60 section in 33.14 and must now wait to see if he has done enough to be on the team for Glasgow. Jim Langan competed in the Over 65 three mile race where he finished in 7th place in a time of 25.43. Liz Cuskelly is also Glasgow bound by virtue of her second place finish in the women's over 35 category. Liz clocked 19.42 for the three mile trip.
