Curley and Donegan on top form in Castlepollard 5k

The Castlepollard 5k road race is one of the best established events in the midlands and this year marked its 17th anniversary, with a fine field of 366 athletes competing. Pauline Curley was first lady to cross the line in a time of 17.34. Jason Donegan, who continues to post improving times, completed the 5k in 17.07 earning him second in the over 20 age group. His uncle Christy Donegan was also second in his age group (O-50) in a time of 18.01. Kilomarathon win for Pauline Pauline Curley was the lady winner of the Kilomarathon event held in Moone, Co Kildare, on Saturday last. A total of 134 athletes lined up for this 26.2km event, won by Gary O'Hanlon (Clonliffe Harriers) in a time of 1.27.33. Pauline was a clear lady winner, crossing the line after 1hr, 27mins and in 6th position overall. Midlands Half Marathon The second annual Midlands Half Marathon was held on Sunday the 12th August in Portlaoise. The challenging course wasn't the only hurdle the athletes had to overcome on the day. Due to some error of judgement, the race was extended to 14.5miles rather than the customary 13.1 half marathon distance. Three Harriers athletes took part and were relieved to cross the line after an unexpectedly tough competition - Mags Grennan (2.00.33), Martina Conlon (2.01.51 - 1st O-45 category), and Ray Murray (2.03.46). Mullingar Park Hotel 10k On Sunday last, Martin McManus competed in the Mullingar Park Hotel 10k road race. He finished in 7th place overall, with a personal best of 38.59 proving his committed training is paying off. Fr. Kelliher 4 Miler Tullamore Harriers veteran athlete, Jim Langan made to trip to Killarney on August 3rd to compete in the Fr Kelliher 4 mile road race, winning the O-65 age category in a time of 32.18. National Track & Field Masters Final The Woodies DIY AAI Masters Championships will be held in Tullamore Harriers Stadium on Saturday, August 18 (11am). The club hopes its masters athletes will get inspiring local support to encourage them in their competition. Fixtures - August Friday, 17 August: Ballinagar 10k @ 6.30pm. Sun 23 September: Neville 10 mile Road Race, 10am (from Tullamore Harriers). Training: Tuesday & Thursdays at 6.30pm and Sunday at 8.30am.
