Grainne to fight for allireland title

Tullamore boxer Grainne Walsh will compete in the televised final of the All-Ireland U22 Boxing Championships in Dublin’s National Stadium on (Friday), October 24.

Grainne, from the Clara Road, is a member of the Spartacus Boxing Club in Cloncollig, and recently won a Gold Medal at an international boxing championship in Latvia. The 19 year-old is also the All-Ireland Novice champion and has made a very significant mark on the world of Irish female boxing since she took up the sport just over two years ago.

In her final on Friday she faces Shanice Just, from Hacketstown in Carlow, who is a member of the Grangecon Boxing Club. The bout will be televised on TG4 at approximately 8.15pm and Grainne’s coach at the Spartacus Boxing Club, Dima Dimitruk, has been working closely with the Tullamore boxer since her return from Latvia at the end of September.

“Grainne is completely focused on Friday’s final and has been working exceptionally hard over the last few weeks in preparation for this fight,'  said Dima.

'She is completely dedicated to boxing and both the mental and physical preparation for competing at All-Ireland level is very intense, so hopefully all the hard work which Grainne has put in over the last few weeks and months will pay off in the final.'

Television coverage of the U22 All-Ireland Boxing Finals begins this Friday night on TG4 at 7.30pm.
