The whelahans are taking over

BARRY Whelahan has been appointed the new manager of the Offaly camogie team - thus joining his brother Brian in the Faithful County management structure.

Brian Whelahan was recently ratified as senior hurling manager for a second year and Barry’s appointment as camogie boss was rubberstamped on Wednesday night.

He replaces Aidan Franks, who recently stepped down as the camogie manager after two years in charge.

Barry Whelahan guided Birr to their first county senior camogie title in October at the expense of favourites Shinrone.

When Offaly last won the Liam MacCarthy Cup in 1998, Brian, Barry and another sibling, Simon, were part of the panel.
