Plans published for new outer relief road in Edenderry

Cllr Noel Bourke has welcomed a recent planning application for the Edenderry Outer Relief Road.

The road will connect the Dublin Road to Fr Paul Murphy Street upon completion.

“In a previous application processed last year, permission was applied for and granted for approximately two thirds of the road starting at Fr Paul Murphy Street and the application now with Offaly County Council is for the remaining part of the road bringing it to the Dublin,” Cllr Bourke said.

The completion of the road would be highly beneficial to the residents and business people of Edenderry, he commented. The road will ease traffic on Fr Paul Murphy Street and should remove traffic from the junction at O?Donoghue?s pub, he said.

“If the planning application now before Offaly County Council is granted, it is

important that the putting in place of the road be carried out in a planned structured way in order to ensure that the benefits of it come to the area and to the town in general,” said Cllr Bourke.

Cllr Bourke called on the council to reserve land in the area for the provision a community centre and the recently-established Scoil Bhride which is on a

temporary site at present.

He said the school would be best located on the eastern side of the town.

While the planning application for the road has been lodged, Cllr Bourke said the development will take time, subject to planning, and a new junction layout should be considered by the council in the meantime.

“I look forward to working with all concerned to ensure that the maximum benefit will accrue to the area and the town from what ever developments come about,” concluded Cllr Bourke.
