Winter League extended until February 8

The Winter League has been extended until February 8 due to the inclement weather. The coaching on February 8 is divided into two sessions 12 - 2 and 2.30 - 4.30. Please check the notice boards to see which session you are booked in for. The Captain"s Social event was held on Saturday, January 24, but after a frosty start of the day the course was opened was 11. Thankfully the weather was benign for a change. An 11-hole stableford individual competition was held together with a yellow ball team event, where everyone takes turns to play the yellow ball. The yellow ball cannot be replaced if it is lost. It is rumoured that one team lost the yellow ball on the first hole, so the other members did not even see the yellow ball. An extremely talented golfer who shall remain nameless was urged by his team not to drive the 10th so he laid up with a three-iron and proceeded to hit the yellow ball straight into the water, he retrieved the ball dropped it and hit it back into the water again, this time it could not be retrieved. Joe Monaghan a made a formal presentation of a spare yellow ball to the gentleman afterwards to commemorate the event. After the golf there was a wine reception and hot port. The food provided by Jamies was excellent. The winners of the men"s golf was Robert Dunne with 25 pts and John O"Shea with 24 pts. Mick Dalton and Alan Lowry also had 24 pts but were beaten on the back nine. The Ladies"s was won by Loretta Flynn and 2nd was Vivienne Dunican. The yellow ball team event was won by Lady Captain elect Carmel Harty"s team comprising of John O"Shea, Brendan Lowry and Damien Spollen. The table quiz followed with teams of four. Many thanks to M.C. Vice Captain Frank Ryan. The quiz was won by Martin Heffernan, Suzanne Heffernan, Mick Dalton and Regina O"Regan. Joe Monaghan decided to hold a one-man sitdown protest as he felt that someone on the team must have broken into the Captain"s office and looked at the answers. The runners-up were Robert Dunne and Joe Redmond and Larry Hackett"s team. AGM The men"s A.G.M. is scheduled for Wednesday, February 11, at 8pm and the Ladies AGM is scheduled for Thursday, February 12, at 8pm. Weekend Away The Esker weekend away will be Friday 24 - 25 of April venue to be confirmed shortly.
