County Fleadh successful week continues

The Offaly Fleadh continues into the weekend, after an enjoyable 50th anniversary dinner dance celebration in Birr marked the beginning of events on Sunday night. The remainder of the week will showcase the finest musicians, singers, dancers from Comhaltas branches in Offaly and will continue on in Killina, Rahan, late into Sunday night. Tonight (Friday, May 8,) Offaly"s Largest Session will kick off in "The Dome" in Killina School. The organisers are inviting all musicians, singers, dancers, storytellers and individuals to come along and participate in forming Offaly"s largest session in honour of the anniversary celebrations. The main events at the weekend will include many competitions. On Saturday night, there will be a Fleadh Mass in Killina Church at 8.30pm followed by a Céilí Mór in "The Dome" featuring the Lough Ree Ceili Band from 10pm. The Sunday afternoon entertainment runs from 2pm to 8pm featuring Lacka Comhaltas Group from Galwa, the Tulla Comhaltas Group from Clare, Offaly"s own Scoil Mhuire and also Coppers and Brass with Midlands 103 broadcasting live. Darren Breslin from Co Fermanagh, the senior button accordion champion, will also take part in the Sunday session. So get to Rahan this weekend, it"s the place to be.
