Offaly GAA Club notes

St Rynagh"s Football Club Lá Na gClub St. Rynagh"s Football club celebrated 125 years of the GAA on Sunday, May 10, in the pitch in Cloghan. The weather was very kind to us which made the day more enjoyable for the families that came out to give their support. Proceedings began with an open air mass celebrated by father Michael Scanlon. During the mass, Fr. Michael remembered all past players especially those who are now deceased. He remarked on how they had kept the GAA alive in the parish during hard times and also mentioned the proud tradition the GAA has had in the community since its foundation. He also mentioned players that have represented the club at county level and have competed at the highest level in hurling and football. He had a special mention for the three All-Ireland hurling winning captains Padraig Horan, Martin Hanamy and Hubert Rigney. Many thanks to Fr. Scanlon and those who did readings and prayers of the faithful during the mass. A huge group of young players from U8 to U16 did a sponsored jersey walk around the pitch led by county player Ger Rafferty. Afterwards, each underage player who had raised sponsorship was presented with the new club jersey. Also, the new club merchandise was launched on the day. There were fun activities and a BBQ provided for everyone. There was also a skills demonstration by team trainers, mentors and underage players. It was great to see so many of them enjoying playing football and so willing to learn. Before ending the day"s events the Chairman, Ray Bell, thanked everyone for making the day such a success, those who sponsored food and drinks, underage players for selling tickets, Fr. Scanlon for saying mass and also those who worked so hard getting everything ready for the day. He wished all teams from U8 to intermediates and juniors, the best of luck in the coming year. The new club website was also launched on the day. You may visit this site at: www.strynaghsfootballclub.ie.
