Curley second in Mini Marathon
The annual Women"s Mini Marathon took place last Monday on the streets of Dublin on a scorching hot day. Pauline Curley and Liz Cuskelly were in the leading group in the early stages but then eventual winner Rosemary Ryan got away from the field and continued to extend her lead to come home a clear winner in a time of 34.36. Pauline Curley ran on strong to claim a great second place in a time of 35.41 which was a fine run in the conditions. Pauline Lambe had a super run to finish 8th in 37.20 while Liz Cuskelly finished in 16th place and second over 35 in a time of 38.54. Maire Triona Keane also had a good run, considering she did a triathlon the previous Saturday, and finished in 26th place in 39.56. Club Track & Field Championships The first round of the Club Track and Field Championships took place last Thursday night with the teams captained by Ray Delaney, Ger Hensey and Mick Fleming. All events were very competitive as athletes strove to score points for their teams. Mullingar Road League The fourth and final leg of the Mullingar Midland road league took place last Wednesday and, despite the lure of the Champions League final, it attracted a big field of 242 runners. Maire Triona Keane, the winner of the women"s race on the first three nights, had the luxury of being able to sit this race out and still be crowned overall women"s winner. Adrian Martin ran another steady race and this was enough to give him third place overall in the men"s over 45 category. Enfield 5K The annual Bob Heffernan 5k road race was held on Tuesday of this week and attracted a field of almost 200 runners. Several Harriers members competed and it proved to be a very rewarding night with many running fast times. Fastest Tullamore athlete on the night was Mick Murphy who finished in 9th place in a time of 16.10. Pauline Curley won the Senior Ladies title in an impressive time of 16.37. Liz Cuskelly was first over 35 in a time of 17.46 while Mary Daly finished second in the Over 40 Ladies and was very happy to run yet another personal best time of 19.15. Pauline Curley, Liz Cuskelly and Maire Triona Keane combined to win the ladies team title. Triathlon The TriAthy Triathlon was held in Athy last Saturday. Mary Daly was the winner in her age category in a time of 2.19.15. Her splits were 1500 metre swim 26.23, 40k cycle 1.09 and 10k run 40.23. Maire Triona Keane competed in the shorter sprint race and finished second in her age category in a time of 1.08.47 (swim 8.50, cycle 37.17 and run 20.28). Mick Murphy was 24th overall and 3rd in his age category in a time of 1.05.21 with splits of Swim 10.37, Cycle 33.50 and run 17.52. Fixtures June 7: Leinster Senior and Masters Track and Field.
