"Championship Man" CD an ideal Father"s Day gift

With the championship season now in full swing, the newly-launched CD "The Adventures of Championship Man & Other Cruciate Stories" is a real treat for GAA fans. The collection, by journalist and broadcaster Liam Horan, deals with such crucial (or cruciate!), GAA topics as: "The Man With The Radio To His Ear", "Getting Out Early To Beat The Traffic", "The Third-man Tackle", "The Top-of-the-toe Kick-out", "Championship Man Comes Out", and "Championship Man"s Broken Heart". It is produced in conjunction with Cooper helmets. 'Real, on-the-button GAA humour - if you love Gaelic games, you"ll love this. It gets to the heart of what the GAA is all about,' says RTE broadcaster Des Cahill of the CD, which features a collection of 18 radio essays first broadcast on RTE Drivetime Sport over the past two years. 'Liam Horan is one of the distinctive voices of the Irish summer,' added Cahill, who enjoys a weekly chuckle at the essays while presenting the programme. The character, Championship Man, was first created by Horan in the summer of 2007, and has become a firm favourite on the Thursday evening Drivetime Sports programme. A former Gaelic games correspondent of the "Irish Independent", Liam lives in Ballinrobe, Co Mayo, where he runs Sli Nua Communications. This Sunday, June 21, is Father"s Day and the CD would make an ideal gift for many a GAA diehard. 'There is a part of Championship Man in all GAA fans, men and women. Championship Man races to the peaks, and plunges the depths, often in the same ten-minute period,' explains Liam. 'But, what sustains him is his certain knowledge that this is going to be The Year. He has had this feeling for a long time now, over 30 years in some cases. But it is as strong as ever.' Want to check if you"re Championship Man?
