Tullamore Golf Club - Men"s Club

Sunday"s Competition - The singles stableford competition at the weekend was generously sponsored by Tullamore Nissan and as a result of the draw for partners many had fellow competitors that they had not played with before. The scoring was very hot and the winner was a player of great promise P J Barron (12) with 43 pts. P J only went out to 12 recently and he didn"t stay long there. He had 12 pars and a birdie and had pars on the last three holes which are regarded as three of the most difficult on the course. His back 9 of 22 pts was good enough to keep off the challenge of Paul Shaw (20) who finished with the same score but had only 20 pts on the back nine. The 16th was costly for him as he had no score on the hole. John Dunne Jnr. (14) took 3rd place with 40 pts and he is gradually getting the handicap down. The way he is going he will soon be half the father"s handicap, so there is a challenge to John Snr. Conor Ruane will definitely attract interest from the Senior Cup selectors with his level par round of 70 and he took the gross with 36 gross points. Hard luck to Joe Healion, Darragh O Toole and Charlie Geoghegan, they all had 39 points which would have got a prize on another day. Next weekend the Club Championship sponsored by J A Lumley & Son takes place and this is confined to players off single figure handicaps and the 36 holes will be played on Sunday only. Tee times are reserved from 9 am and again there is an hour reserved in the afternoon. There will also be a singles on Saturday & Sunday for those not in the Club Championship but players in the Club Championship can also enter on Sunday. The competition is sponsored by Harney Enterprises Ltd. The President-elect"s prize sponsored by Jo Barber was postponed earlier in the year and has now been re-fixed for Saturday 4th July and the format will be a mixed three person scramble, two men and one lady. There will be a time sheet for a limited period on Friday evening 3rd to facilitate those who cannot play on the Saturday. A time sheet is posted in the Clubhouse for both days. Monday"s Open The Open competition on Monday 15th June was again a success helped no doubt by the good weather. The winner was a visitor from Mullingar G.C. John Kilmurray(19) who had 39 pts. In 2nd place was junior member Conor Daly (7) with 38 pts. There must be a private competition between Conor and Stuart Grehan to see which of them can win the most prizes. In 3rd place was another Tullamore member Stephen Thompson (19) with 38 pts. The Open Day continues on each Monday and there is a time sheet in operation so just ring 05793 21439 to book a place. The mixed Rumble on Saturday 20th drew a great entry despite several other sporting attractions and the proceeds are going to Dóchas and the competition was sponsored by Greg Neville Carpets in Cloncollig. The scoring was very close with Noel Cleary, Rosemary Gatley, George Dunne and Pauline Needham taking 1st prize with 59.0. One tenth behind were Tommy Corroon, Marie Lambe, Kevin O Brien and Helen Wilson and third with 59.6 were Leonard Dolan, Loretta Flynn, Joe Cuskelly and Aidan Marsden.
