Local business people volunteer time for Big Brother Big Sister Programme

Female participants in The Big Brother Big Sister programme recently enjoyed a Pampering Evening in the scheme's office at Bridge Street, Tullamore. Business people from the community volunteered their time and expertise in an effort to make a positive difference in young people's lives, the aim of the event being to increase the youngster's self confidence. Beauty therapist Aisling Fenlon, hairstylist Carol Lynam and mentor Val Lynam volunteered two hours of their time to share their skills with the young people and their assigned mentors. They willingly styled participants hair, painted their nails, gave beauty and makeup tips while engaging in conversation and making all feel comfortable and valued. The atmosphere was phenomenal as everyone had an opportunity to avail of hair and makeup tips from professionals while having a cup of tea and a chat with each other. It really summed up in a tangible way, the essence of The Big Brother Big Sister Programme which has the mantra of 'Creating Possibilities through Friendships'. Local Project Officer, Ms Caroline Mc Dermott said: "The pampering evening was a great success young people and mentors alike went home feeling elated. The evening evidently displayed the positive aspects of volunteering and displayed first hand that a little time can make a big difference".
