Catch Grennan fastest in Gowran eight mile road race

The annual Gowran road race was run last Sunday over a distance of eight miles. The Gowran trophy is awarded to the first placed novice athlete to finish. Pat Conlon ran a steady race to finish sixth overall and was first novice home in an impressive time of 51.20. This was a well deserved victory for Pat and just rewards for the training he is putting in. Catch Grennan showed he meant business when he went into the lead straight from the off. He was followed by a group consisting of John Donegan, Jody O'Reilly and Johnny Feery. Grennan increased his lead all the way to win by a big margin in a good time of 45.02. John Donegan claimed second after a great battle with Johnny Feery while Jody O'Reilly had to settle for fourth place. Maire Triona Keane finished seventh overall and first woman in a time of 51.29. Other impressive runs on the day came from Eanna Gowran in eight place and a tenth placing for the ever improving Fra Mollen. Adidas Half-Marathon, Dublin Mick Murphy continued his preparations for next months Dublin City Marathon by competing in the Adidas Half-Marathon in Dublin last Saturday. Mick finished in a brilliant 18th place out of a field of 8000 runners in a fast time of 1.15.26. Declan Fahey was 55th in 1.19.43 while Eddie Garry finished in 127th place in a time of 1.23.48. Loughrea 5 mile road race Noel Kelly finished in 8th place in a high class field in the annual Loughrea 5 mile road race. Noel's time was 25.34. Liz Cuskelly finished 5th woman overall and was the winner of the over 35 category in a time of 31.18. Bangor 10k Pauline Curley made the long trip to County Down last Saturday to run the Bangor 10k road race. Pauline finished second, 100 metres behind the winner Gladys O'Neill. Pauline clocked 36.37 for the 10k distance. Fixtures October 4th at 2pm: Discover Tullamore 5k Road Race around the town and open to everyone. October 11th: Offaly Novice and Masters Cross Country Championships in Charleville Estate, Tullamore, at 10am. Training Tuesday and Thursday at 6.30pm. Sunday morning at 8.30am Except on a race day.
