Consistency is key to giant clean up success in Edenderry

The Edenderry and District Women Mean Business clean-up campaign has really taken off, with local traders, community groups and even councillors getting involved. The greatest success to date is Main Street according to EDWIB. Pat Kirwan, the litter warden was delighted with the massive improvement he noticed when doing his rounds. He urged the public and the school children to come on board and support the work of the community and to help make a difference. September Winner of Cleanest Tidiest Shop Front As an incentive for the businesses to get involved in the sweep, weed and wash campaign, EDWIB is running the Cleanest Tidiest Shop Front competition on a monthly basis. This is a fun, light-hearted idea and is not to be confused with the official Tidy Towns project, which has been run successfully for many years by the tidy towns committee. The wonderful members of KARE have been consistent every week in their help in cleaning up the street and they were delighted to be involved in presenting Glen Foran with his framed image of his shop front having won cleanest tidiest shop front for September. Glen was delighted to be selected and more so delighted that it was the general public who selected him. "I sweep and tidy outside my shop every single morning and am delighted that my customers appreciate it," said Glen. He also thanked Ruth Smullen of KARE who made the presentation along with her other friends and helpers from KARE. Ruth told us that she is delighted to be part of the clean up project in Edenderry and was honoured to be chosen to present the first award. So businesses and residents on JKL street take note! Get involved in the sweep, weed and wash campaign, which basically means sweeping outside your own premises very day and keeping it litter free. You may be chosen as October's Cleanest Tidiest Shop Front or residence which can be judged any day any time between now and October 31, by any member of the public. Clean ups will be carried out on a Monday and Saturday so keep an eye on the Edenderry notes in newspapers for clean-up times and places. Cllr Noel Burke and Cllr Nichola Hogan were both delighted to be a part of last Monday's clean-up. They congratulated KARE and EDWIB and all those involved for their huge support and encourage everyone to come together for the good of Edenderry.
