Birr school children win top award at film festival

Carrig National School in Birr won an award for most Outstanding Achievement in Film Making for 'Choreography' with their film 'Commercial Chaos.' The event took place on Tuesday, October 20, in the Helix at Dublin City University. Twenty-five awards were presented to schools to celebrate their outstanding film achievements in areas such as animation, acting, editing and direction. Over 700 children and their teachers from around Ireland attended the special award ceremony as The Helix buzzed with excitement.Commenting on the National FÍS Film Festival, Anne White, National Coordinator with the National Centre for Technology in Education (NCTE), said: "FÍS truly is a visionary approach to learning and inspires children to let their imagination and creativity take control and allows their ideas come to life in their films. Through the use of digital video they are exploring film-making and their magical minds." This is the fifth year the National FÍS Film Festival celebrates outstanding film achievements by primary school children. FÍS is managed by the National Centre for Technology in Education (NCTE) in collaboration with the Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art Design and Technology (IADT).
