Esker Hills pays tribute to late former lady captain

It was with great sadness that Esker Hills Golf Club lost one of its former Lady Captains after a battle with illness. Mary McGill fought the great fight with dignity and had no regrets - saying she had had a "good innings". At the commencement of the club Mary was a great help with the affiliation of the club to the ILGU. She was a font of knowledge as regards all aspects of rules and etiquette.Mary was the founding handicap secretary, a post she held for many years. She also had a very successful year as Lady Captain in 2000.Mary was a great supporter and friend to all the lady members - running evening lessons to improve "putting" and "chipping". She encouraged everyone.Mary had a great sense of humour. Her constant smile was a great source of enjoyment to everyone. She was always ready with a joke, song or recitation - her favourite being "piddlin pete". As a colleague, working with Mary in the General Hospital, Tullamore, her philosophy was "everything for the patient". The patient came first, last and always. The club extends its sympathy and support to her sister Joan on her sad loss.
