String of burglaries across county
Gardaí in Tullamore and Birr are seeking the public's help in relation to a recent spate of burglaries. Sergeant John Mahon in Birr told the Offaly Independent the area has been subjected to a higher rate of burglaries than usual during daylight hours. Businesses have also been targeted. There was an attempted break-in at Doolin's filling station in Kilcormac on June 30. Three Honda ride-on lawnmowers were stolen from Ormond Hire Centre in Banagher on June 26 and a tri-axle silver Hudson cattle trailer was taken from a private yard in Sharavogue on July 2. Meanwhile there have been a number of burglaries in rural areas around Tullamore over the last number of weeks according to Sergeant Ollie Baker, particularly between 9am and 2pm. He's asking people to stay on the lookout for suspicious activities and report any relevant car registrations and makes to help Gardaí in their investigations.
