Lots in store for November at Birr Theatre

With the clocks going back this weekend and the evenings getting darker, we'll certainly be looking for something to keep us entertained during the long winter months but with so much on offer we'll need to look no further than Birr Theatre & Arts Centre: November exhibit - Poetic Space by Zita Rehill The basis of this body of work is poetry and the depths that poetry takes you to. The paintings, all oil on canvas, are emotional landscapes; they are a visual and emotional response to the inner world that poetry takes you to. They attempt to create a space in which we can contemplate not only the natural grandeur of the world, but also the immense intensity within ourselves, the silence and the stillness within or beyond our deepest selves. Open Monday to Friday 1pm to 5.30pm and during performances. Hullabaloo Children's Art Festival This festival takes place from November 2 to November 5 and provides a fantastic variety of workshops and performances including sessions in dance, art, crafts, circus skills, storytelling, photography, story writing, and puppet workshops along with a number of live performances. Drama at Inish Birr Stage Guild put on this classic comedy from November 9 to November 12. It revolves around a fit-up repertory company that comes to the village of Inish, to perform dark psychological works from the likes of Chekov, Strindberg and Ibsen. However the locals start to develop neuroses, complexes and inhibitions like the characters of the plays which leads to much hilarity. Featuring a local independent TD; a spinster love-struck aunt; an even more love-struck son; a glamorous Dublin accountant; an impressionable hotel maid and many others…These characters have engaged and excited audiences since the play's debut at the Abbey Theatre in 1933. Tickets for the 8pm show are €16/€14. Celtic Airs and Graces Karin Leitner on flute and Cormac deBarra on harp come to Birr Theatre on November 13 at 8pm.
