Mild wet weekend to follow cold snap

The recent sub-zero temperatures that were experienced at their worst in the Midlands are to warm up to temperatures that are normal for this time of year according to Met Eireann forecaster Eoin Sherlock. The recent cold spell was a result of an area of high pressure over northern Europe and winds blowing in from the east. However the dry, clear but cold weather will be beaten back by a weather front coming in from the west today, seeing temperatures pick up to highs of three to four degrees Celsius today (Friday). The same weather front will also bring rain with it however. Weekend temperatures are expected to hit highs of up to eight degrees on Saturday, and up to six degrees on Sunday after a cold start. The longer term trend going into next week is towards slightly milder weather according to Mr Sherlock, with highs of up to an unseasonable eleven degrees possible next Tuesday.
