Gardai probe vicious Edenderry raid

Gardaí in Edenderry are appealing for information from the public regarding an incident last Monday evening that saw a home in The Derries viciously raided and its occupants threatened. It's thought the incident is connected to an incident earlier that evening in Carbury that resulted in a man being taken to hospital with a suspected broken arm. Sergeant Kevin Quinn in Edenderry garda station said two intruders showed up at a house in The Derries occupied by two brothers in their 50s and 60s along with a neighbour in his 60s at approximately 9pm last Monday evening. The two intruders threatened the three men and demanded cash. The occupants of the house also had turf and timber thrown at them by the two intruders, with one sustaining a minor injury to his lip. Both intruders are estimated to be approximately 5'9" - 5'10" in height. Both were wearing dark clothes, with scarves over their faces and caps pulled down as far as their eyes. They were also brandishing hurleys. The two left the house in The Derries with a wallet containing a small amount of cash after scalding water from a kettle was thrown at them by one of the house's occupants. Local Gardaí as yet don't know an approximate age of the intruders or which direction they escaped in. The incident in The Derries is thought to be connected to an incident in Carbury in Kildare that happened on the same evening at 8.45pm. A man in his late 60s there was confronted outside a mobile home by two intruders who demanded money after hearing a noise. The two intruders were both wearing dark clothes, caps and scarves and were brandishing hurleys. The two left that scene empty handed but the man in his 60s was taken to Naas hospital later with a suspected broken arm as a result of a scuffle. Sgt Quinn said any information from anyone in The Derries or surrounding area, or from those who travelled on the road from Carbury to Edenderry, would be welcomed at Edenderry garda station.
