Condron Concrete pay claim continues
A claim relating to a ten per cent pay deduction which more than 40 employees at Condron Concrete claim was imposed on them without agreement was heard this week in Tullamore. The claim, which relates to a six-month period up to last December, follows a previous successful claim last December relating to an earlier six month period. The Tullamore Court Hotel was the venue for a hearing before Rights Commissioner Eugene Hanly last Tuesday, February 28, which lasted from 10am until 3.45pm. Employees were represented by Esther Earley BL under instruction from Shanley, Glennon and Co in Longford in the claim made under the Payment of Wages Act 1991. The Offaly Independent was told by Ms Earley the ten per cent reduction in pay was first made in March 2010 and remains in place. She said most employees involved in the claim are lon- time employees of the pipe and tile manufacturing company, and have been employed by Condron Concrete since the 1980s. A spokesperson for Condron Concrete told the Offaly Independent on Wednesday the company is "not interested in making any comment" on the issue. A decision on the claim heard this week will be sent to workers by Rights Commissioner Mr Hanly after six weeks.
