Major canal clean up this weekend

A major clean up of the Grand Canal in Tullamore has been planned for today (Saturday, May 19). The event has been organised by local residents, the Grand Canal Anglers and Tullamore Tidy Towns. Speaking this week Tullamore town councillor Brendan Killeavy stressed the importance of the event. "The Grand Canal is one of the town's best known landmarks and is a wonderful attraction, so making sure it looks its best and reflects well on our town is something we should all be mindful of," he said. Cllr Killeavy said it's great to see members of the community getting together for a few hours every year to work towards such a worthwhile goal. Anyone interested in taking part in the clean up event should meet at the handball alley car park at 11am tomorrow morning. All equipment, including gloves and bags, will be provided. "All people need to worry about bringing is themselves," Cllr Brendan Killeavy said.
