98% of those eligible to vote registered to do so in Offaly

Almost 98% of those eligible to vote in Offaly are registered to do so according to figures obtained by the Offaly Independent. Over 54,000 people are registered to vote Offaly-wide according to Offaly County Council. Meanwhile figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) suggest Offaly's population of people aged 18 and over (and therefore eligible to vote) stands at little with an additional thousand over the number registered to vote in the county. According to Offaly County Council Offaly's total number of registered voters stands at 54,422. According to Census 2011 Offaly's total population stands at 76,806. However figures received from the CSO suggest that there are 55,538 people aged 18 and over in Offaly. Voting centres will open for people to let their opinion on the Stability Treaty be known next Thursday, May 31. Polling centres are scheduled to open their doors at 7am on Thursday morning and remain open until 10pm on Thursday night.
