ConTempo join local musicians for summer concert

The Tullamore Classical Music School held its summer concert in St Colmcille's Church last Thursday evening. Guest artists the ConTempo Quartet began proceedings with an exciting performance of the last movement of Dvorak's "American" Quartet. Students of the Tullamore Classical Music School who play violin, viola and cello had the oppportunity to take to the stage then to perform works by Pleyel, Mendelssohn, Boccherini, Schubert and more with the support of ConTempo and special guest Aoise O'Dwyer. Aoise is a past pupil of Killina Presentation Secondary School and will study viola at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam next year. Aoise also joined the ConTempo on the night for a movement of the Mozart String Quintet in G minor. The summer concert finished with a rendition of "Reap the Flax" by a string quartet of eight to ten year old students. The ConTempo String Quartet will return to Tullamore this summer for the International Summer Music School, which takes place from August 18-26. They will be joined then by internationally recognised composer Elaine Agnew and acclaimed Midlands soprano Helen Hassett as well as a host of string, vocal and piano mentors.
