Offaly councillors will decide today whether to bring the speed limit on the Tullamore to Moate R420 road back up to 100 kilomeetres per hour.

Speed limits to change

Offaly County Councillors will decide this afternoon whether or not to return the speed allowed while travelling on the R420 from Tullamore to Moate (formerly the N80) to 100 kilometres per hour. The road was automatically reclassified as a regional road once the M6 came onstream as the main national route, and this reclassification brought with it the default speed limit allowed on regional roads of 80 kilometres per hour. If the amendment is agreed a revised speed limit of 100 kilometres per hour is expected to be put in place by the beginning of next month.
