Investigation continues into Tullamore hoax bomb warning

Gardaí are working with the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) to establish the source of four hoax bomb warnings that saw Tullamore Court Hotel patrons evacuated last Saturday night, July 28. Sergeant Graham Kavanagh of Tullamore garda station confirmed the warnings - which were issued in relation to sites in Ballinasloe and Galway City in Galway and Claremorris in Mayo as well as Tullamore - came from within Northern Ireland. All four sites were deemed safe at approximately 1am on the night in question, with patrons at that stage allowed to re-enter the buildings. "We took it seriously," Sgt Kavanagh said of a call from the PSNI at approximately 10.30pm last Saturday night detailing the four bomb threats. Gardaí attended the Tullamore hotel and guests on the premises were evacuated immediately. A hotel search took place and after liaising with the three other hoax sites all were deemed safe at approximately 1am in the early hours of Sunday morning. At that stage patrons were allowed re-enter the hotel. Sgt Kavanagh said officers are now investigating the incidents to establish where the threats came from.
