Drug information leaflet launched in Clara

A local community group in Clara whose aim is to promote education and awareness around drug and alcohol issues has launched an information leaflet aimed at parents of young people in the area. The leaflet aims to create awareness among parents of the risks associated with substance misuse, why young people use drugs and the signs that a young person may be using drugs. The leaflet also provides contact details for a range of support and information organisations, including useful websites and phone numbers. The group has worked with Clara Community and Family Resource Centre, An Garda Siochana, Foróige and Offaly Local Development Company over the last number of months to produce this resource. Guidance and input were also received from the HSE. The local group plans to develop other initiatives that promote education and awareness around these issues including training for young people and awareness training for volunteers who work with youth and children in the area. This project forms part of Clara Community Action Plan 2012 - 2014, which aims to make Clara a better place to live. It has been supported by Offaly Building Healthy Communities Initiative and will be distributed locally over the coming weeks.
