Over 1,000 people are expected to attend Culture Night events happening all across Offaly tonight (Friday, September 21). Events ranging from exhibitions to dance, music and literature are all on the menu as part of the free line-up that stretches to venues all across the county and features some of Offaly's best known and loved cultural ambassadors. At 5pm this evening there will be a guided walk at Sculpture in the Parklands in Boora as well as a dance recital by Legitimate Bodies Dance Company. Tullamore library will host a cultural music event from 6.30pm, as will Edenderry Town Hall. At 7pm it's the turn of poetry, traditional music and singing by young people in Edenderry library, while in Birr a photography exhibition launch and Comhaltas concert is on the cards. Clara library will host Clara Concert Band from 7.30pm, while from 8.30pm an event looking at spoken word, literature and drama takes place at the Tullamore Dew Heritage Centre in Tullamore. Comhaltas branches around the county have also got on board with the event and will host a number of sessions. Tullamore Comhaltas will visit Tommy Dolan's pub in Clara at 8pm, while Killeigh Comhaltas will visit The Steeple in Tullamore at the same time. Sessions will also take place at Rhode Community Centre, Tullybeg House in Rahan, Edenderry library, Dan & Molly's pub in Ballyboy and Seary's in Daingean. All sessions will begin at 8pm. Personalities including Eugene O'Brien, Angela Ryan, Mark Cunningham and St Colmcille's Pipe Band are among those taking part in Offaly's Culture Night offering. Most events do require booking, as capacity is limited in most venues. More details and a full programme of events can be found by visiting www.offaly.ie.
