Eden locals to become breast cancer aware

October is traditionally known as breast cancer awareness month, and going on plans being put in place for Edenderry locals will be very much aware. In conjunction with Edenderry and District Women in Business (EDWIB), a group of local ladies have arranged a fancy dress walk for October 21, with everyone from the locality welcome to join in. Funds raised by the event will go towards treats for cancer sufferers in the area. "Thanks to Adrian Brereton and Operation Transformation there are hundreds of men and women and kids out walking and running on a daily basis," EDWIB founder Nida Collins - a breast cancer survivor herself - said. "The ladies are asking all the community, young and old, to join them on Sunday, October 21 at 2pm. As it's close to Hallowe'en it would be great if everyone wore fancy dress. Some of the ladies will be wearing colourful bras on the outside of their t-shirts to celebrate breast health and even some of the men have offered to do the same." Mrs Brown and Jed ward from Edenderry's recent "Take Me Out" night will lead the walk while local musicians have been invited to set up along the route to encourage those taking part with music. There will also be rescue wagons dotted along the course of the five mile walk for those who need a lift. All local businesses have also been asked to get on board by dressing their windows in pink. "There is no one who hasn't been affected in some way by cancer and the plan for the money raised by this event and others over the coming weeks is to arrange little treats for those in our town and district going through cancer at the moment," Nida explained, adding that this could be anything from arranging a hair appointment to getting someone in to do some housework. Locals with skills to offer are also welcome to come on board, and Nida says already offers have been given by therapists, musicians and more. "The great thing about this is that people can give any amount no matter how small and it will have a direct benefit on their local people and local businesses," she said. Registration for the upcoming walk is €10, with those under twelve free. Registration can be done in a number of businesses around Edenderry including Jo Jo's hair salon on JKL St, McGreals, All Inks in the Square, The Flower Pot and Chloe Interiors on the Dublin Road.
