Curtains up for Rath Drama

The opening night of Rath Drama Group's "A Wake in the West" is tonight (Wednesday, October 17). The comedy by MJ Ginnelly promised to be hugely popular, with a plot focusing on the wake of a man known to be fond of a drop and whose last wish threatens to humiliate his family. "A Wake in the West" is Rath Drama Group's third production since its revival in 2010. Previous plays "Big Maggie" by John B Keane and "Don't Dress for Dinner" by Mac Camoletti both went down a storm, and it's hoped this third offering will do the same. The show will run in Rath Hall for four nights - October 17, 18, 20 and 21 - from 8pm. There will be no performance on Friday, October 19 as Marcella Nugent and John Ryan will be tying the knot. Tickets for shows are available in Peter Fox's Pharmacy in Birr, Oonagh's shop in Rath or by calling 057 9133100. Last year Rath Drama Group donated €2,000 to local charities, and with local support it's hoped to do the same this year. Chairperson Oonagh Gath said the group's continued success is down to many factors, including a fantastic hall, a great committee, a wealth of talent and some very hard work.
