Birr gardai seek witnesses after car theft

Gardaí in Birr are appealing for information from the public after one car was partly burnt out and another stolen in two separate incidents. The incident involving the burnt out car occurred at a house on Grove Street in Crinkle. The vehicle, which was parked in a private driveway, was discovered on fire at approximately 1.40am on October 28. In the second incident a blue Volkswagen Passat - registration plate 04 D 2885 - was stolen after a house at Whiteford, Birr, was broken into some time between 10.30pm on October 27 and 1.50am on October 28. A quantity of cash was also taken from the house in the raid. Gardaí are also appealing for information in relation to a number of other local incidents. A large quantity of tools, including drills, a chainsaw and a hedge trimmer, were stolen from a private property at Mount Sally, Birr, between 6pm on October 27 and 11.30am on October 29. Meanwhile intruders gained access to Des Ryan Tyres on Railway Road in Birr between 6pm on October 25 and 1pm on October 26. A number of vehicles on the premises were interfered with according to Sergeant John Mahon and motor fuel was taken from them.
