Gardaí in Edenderry are appealing for public help after the town's Christmas tree was vandalised in the early hours of last Sunday morning, December 9. Speaking to the Offaly Independent Edenderry's Sergeant Kevin Quinn said two youths were involved in the incident that occured sometime in the region of 3am. He said some of the tree's lights were taken down and damaged, while some electrical components were also damaged. Gardaí are currently studying local CCTV footage. Anyone in the area at the time is also being encouraged to contact Edenderry garda station on 046 9731290. Edenderry councillor Noel Cribbin said the Christmas tree lights cost something in the region of €1,000. He said he was saddened to hear of the incident, especially as the town has only had a Christmas tree on display in the past number of years thanks to the efforts of a small local group. "It's the biggest sickener ever I got," he said describing last weekend's incident.
